With BlueEdgeSM you have secure access to online tools to help manage your company’s health care benefit plan. Your employees can access tools to help decide if BlueEdgeSM is right for them and after enrollment, they can use online resources to help manage their plan and health care.

Blue StarSM Hospital Report

This annual report provides performance information on 93 contracting, urban Illinois hospitals. Your employees can use this information to help them select hospitals that best meet their needs.

Blue Access for EmployersSM

Blue Access for Employers enables you to review membership, employee eligibility and activity, billing, account summary and product information. You can also make membership changes and request reports.

Blue Access for MembersSM

Blue Access for Members lets BlueEdge members review the status of their Health Care Accounts (including current balance, payments made to date and year-to-year rollover amounts), check the status of a claim, view the explanation of medical benefits and confirm who is covered under their plan. Members can receive an e-mail when Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois finalizes their claims and opt to stop receiving paper copies of Explanation of Benefits.

The Care Comparison® Tool

Found within Blue Access for Members, the Care Comparison® Tool lets members quickly compare hospitals, based on specific diagnoses and procedures. They can search and compare hospital performance factors such as length-of-stay, the number of procedures performed and complication rates.

Health and Wellness Resources

Extensive health and wellness information is available online to members through Blue Access for Members. Health and wellness resources include:

  • Self-management tools for common health care problems, such as asthma, low back pain and headaches
  • A Health Risk Assessment that evaluates members’ health status and gives them personalized health information and guidance
  • Information about specific conditions, diseases and treatments, including alternative medicine
  • Interactive health and lifestyle tools to help members lose weight, quit smoking and start an exercise program
  • Decision-making tools to help members understand medical treatments


Personal Health Resources

An online tool enables your employees to set up a personal health record to keep track of their health information within Blue Access for Members. With their permission, this record can be accessed by their doctors, family and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois nurses to facilitate their care. Employees can receive wellness advice such as alerts for screening tests and vaccinations and targeted e-mails to help them better manage their condition.
